GGE has experienced wood pellet management team with successful track record operating wood pellet facilities and undertaking procurement, significantly larger in scope.
John T. Sumner (CEO) - Mr. Sumner is an alumnus of Auburn University and an experienced business leader with over 30 years of executive management, insurance and investment banking experience, a highlight of which being more than $100 million raised for capital and business expansion projects across the Southeast.
George B. ‘Brad’ Warren Jr. (CFO) – Mr. Warren is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and successful business developer and leader with over 36 years’ experience including the founding and growth of a $50 million per year company with 750 employees. Mr. Warren is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in Banking and Finance in 1975, CPA 1977.
Kenneth L. Ciarletta (COO) – Mr. Ciarletta managed and led the development of German utility RWE’s greenfield startup Waycross Pellet Facility considered the largest facility of its kind in the world. Accountable for all business functions of this international business from fiber procurement to product off-take to a customer base in EU. Project was operational within fourteen months and commissioned in the first five months to nameplate capacity. Within three years of operation, Georgia Biomass is nominated for Georgia’s prestigious. Manufacturer of the Year among all industries in the Georgia. In addition to his experience with RWE, Mr. Ciarletta has had a distinguished career holding senior roles at Weyerhaeuser, Georgia Pacific, BlueLinx and Enova Energy.
Shante Al Balushi (Director, International Relations) – Based on a foundation of extensive experience and well-developed expertise, Al Balushi is well positioned to support the GGE team to advance its global interests. After completing a successful military career; working in, and visiting, more than 52 countries, Al Balushi acted as a bridge for Swedish companies to enter the Gulf Countries and advance GGE legal interest abroad. Success in this arena is enhanced by Al Balushi’s years of training teams from different countries in collaborating to execute a common mission. In business, this translates into the ability to work effectively using intercultural communication skills to create an ethical space of engagement that transcends cultural and genderbased biases.
James Malcolm Ross (Indigenous Supply & Partnerships) – Mr. Ross served four-terms as Chief of the Teetl’it Gwich’in Nation residing in Teetl’it Zheh (Fort McPherson, Northwest Territories, Canada). In addition to being a key negotiator for the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement signed with the Government of Canada in 1992, Mr. Ross studied World Petroleum Economics Studies at Yale University, Business Management at the University of Lethbridge, and completed two terms as a board member on the National Aboriginal Development Board of Canada. He is also currently a board member of the Arctic Athabaskan Council which has Permanent Participation Status on the Arctic Council. Mr. Ross will support GGE through his indigenous research organization, Arctic Indigenous Innovations Inc., providing both research linkages with universities and indigenous knowledge holders. Additionally, Mr. Ross will support building linkages between GGE and indigenous communities wishing to mitigate fire risk around their communities.
Donald H. Land (Head of Engineering) - Spending nearly his entire life in the business, Mr. Land has become a world-renowned industrial designer. As the founder and co-owner of Process and Storage Solutions (PASS), he brings an immeasurable amount of experience, industry contacts, and relationships to the GGE team. Through his company, he has designed hundreds of processing plants and systems throughout the world including work at pellet plants. Since 2006, PASS has completed 10 greenfield plants and has consulted on another 12 that are currently operational.
Masao Mizukami (Sales & Marketing) - Mr. Mizukami started his career at Tenryu Lumber Company in Tokyo, Japan during the early 1960’s and was later posted to British Columbia, Canada in the late 1960’s. Having worked for major international and Canadian domestic companies, in 1985 Mr. Mizukami established AQ Timber which has evolved from a log custom cutting and brokerage services provider to a management consulting and sales company today. Currently, AQ Timber is actively undertaking business in Canada, United States, Japan, and China. Mr. Mizukami will support building linkages with Japanese companies interested in purchasing wood pellets.
Sugunthan Thuraisamy, RPF (Stewardship & Sustainability) - Mr. Thuraisamy is an alumnus of the University of British Columbia’s faculty of Forestry and of the International Masters in Practicing Management program. He has lived in Canada, United States, and Europe over the past 25 years working in western coastal temperate, boreal, and eastern temperate forests. He has completed over 300 forest management projects over his carrier including serving four-years as General Manager for an indigenous community’s 2.4-million-acre forest land holding in Canada.
